Scholarships and Awards

Selection Process 

1. Awards application can be submitted by parents and supported by reference from children’s school or instructor.  
2. All the scholarship applications must be submitted by the students themselves.  
3. The following must be completed or enclosed in order for this application to be considered:  

• All sections of the Application Form, if applicable 
• A cover letter which indicates the student’s intention to apply for ECSSEN Scholarships and how this scholarship will help you in your future development to realize your career goal; how you will use your post- secondary education to make a positive difference to Canadian society (Not applicable to Awards applicants)  
• Most recent transcript showing academic performance  
• Letter of acceptance into post-secondary program (where applicable)or a letter to verify that you are a full-time student in designated area as requested  
• Applicants’ summary of community involvement 
• Two reference letters for both aspects of academic (professional) and volunteerism sent directly to ECSSEN Career School ([email protected]). These letters must not be written by family or friends, and it is preferable if at least one is from a current or previous professor or instructor. 

4. Selection of the recipients will be undertaken by an Awards, Scholarship Selection Committee established by the Charity. As all decisions of the Committee are final, the Committee will not respond to requests for information from applicants that are not granted an Awards or Scholarship. 
5. Volunteers of ECSSEN Career School will enjoy higher priority in selection. 
6. Applications will be considered on the basis of academic excellence and other factors including, but not limited to, community
   involvement, financial needs, and career objectives. An interview might be conducted with applicants where additional information is 
   required by the Awards and Scholarship Selection Committee. 
7. Application deadline: Incomplete or late applications will not be considered, whether or not the delay was caused by the applicant(s)  

8. All recipients will be notified in the summer of the application year. The award will be presented to recipients around summertime or the later half of the year.  

      9. Reapplication Policy 

• Recipients of an award are not eligible to reapply for the same award within two years of the date it was received. However, they are welcome to apply for other award categories during this period. 

• Applicants who have previously applied but were not selected are welcome to reapply. 

• However, a reapplication must demonstrate substantive new achievements since the previous application.  This includes: updated reference letters; new academic, professional, or community accomplishments; any additional qualifications, certifications, or progress relevant to the scholarship. Simply resubmitting a previous application with minimal or no updates will not be considered competitive. 

Jun Xiao ECSSEN Immigrants Possibility Scholarship – Medical 

The Jun Xiao ECSSEN Immigrants Possibility Scholarship – Medical recognizes and supports students who are committed to strengthening Alberta’s healthcare system. The scholarship provides financial assistance to either a medical student who is passionate about pursuing a career as a physician in Alberta and helping address the province’s physician shortage, or an immigrant with previous medical education and professional medical experience who is working to re-establish their medical career in Canada. 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Demonstrate academic excellence, asevidencedby academic transcripts and/or other indicators of scholastic achievement.
• Demonstrate leadership and meaningful community involvement through volunteer service, extracurricular activities, professional initiatives, or other contributions. 
• Meet one of the following applicant pathways:

Pathway A – Medical Student 

○ Be a young immigrant enrolled in a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution in a medical or pre-medical field with the demonstrated intention of pursuing medical school and becoming a licensed physician in Alberta.

OR 

Pathway B – International Medical Graduate (IMG) 

○ Be an immigrant with previous medical education and professional medical work experience obtained outside Canada. 

○ Be a current member of the Alberta International Medical Graduates Association (AIMGA). 

○ Be actively pursuing medical licensure in Alberta by completing the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) examination and licensing process. 

Yuan Xing Chinese Canadian Community Service Scholarship 

The Yuan Xing Chinese Canadian Community Service Scholarship recognizes and celebrates young individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and meaningful involvement within the Chinese community. The scholarship honours students who have made positive contributions through volunteer service, community engagement, cultural advocacy, or leadership initiatives, while inspiring others through their commitment and dedication to serving the community. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Be enrolled full-time or part-time in a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution at the time of application.
• Have demonstrated leadership in at least one registered Chinese community non-profit organization. 

• Have completed a minimum of50 hours of volunteer service within the past 12 months.  (Note: Volunteer hours may be accumulated through one or more organizations and must be supported by appropriate documentation.)

• Demonstrate academic excellence, as evidenced by official transcripts and a strong record of academic achievement. 

Ailian Liu ECSSEN Chinese Social Service Scholarship 

The Ailian Liu ECSSEN Chinese Social Service Scholarship recognizes and supports Chinese students who demonstrate a strong commitment to helping others. The scholarship provides financial assistance to students who are pursuing studies in social work, community development, human services, or related fields, and who aspire to build a career dedicated to serving individuals, families, and communities. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be one of the following:
  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada; or
  • An international student with a Chinese background studying in Canada. 

• Be currently enrolled in a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution in one of the following fields, or a closely related discipline:
  •  Social Work;
  • Community Rehabilitation;
  • Human Services;
  • Psychology;
  • Counselling;
  • Education; or
  • Other related social service and community-focused fields. 

• Demonstrate academic excellence, as evidenced by academic transcripts and other indicators of  scholastic achievement. 

• Demonstrate leadership and meaningful community involvement through volunteer service, community engagement, extracurricular activities, employment, internships, research, or other initiatives that contribute positively to society. 

Hong Wang ECSSEN Female Entrepreneurship Scholarship 

The Hong Wang ECSSEN Female Entrepreneurship Scholarship recognizes and empowers young women who demonstrate entrepreneurial ambition, innovation, and leadership potential. Through this award, ECSSEN aims to encourage the next generation of female entrepreneurs to build confidence, embrace opportunities, and develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the business world. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be a female entrepreneur under the age of 30 at the time of application.
• Have founded, co-founded, or independently operated a small business in Canada, either online or through a physical location. 

• The business must:
  • Have been actively operating for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the applicationdeadline;
  • Demonstrate ongoing business activities, customer engagement, and/or revenuegeneration;
  • Have evidence of operations and financial performance (e.g., business registration  documents, financial statements, sales records, tax documents, website/social media presence, or other relevant documentation). 

Yan Gong ECSSEN Women in Engineering Scholarship 

The ECSSEN Women in Engineering Scholarship recognizes and supports female students pursuing education and careers in the field of engineering. The scholarship aims to encourage and empower women to pursue engineering studies, develop their technical skills, and become future leaders and innovators within the engineering profession. 

By providing financial support and recognition, this scholarship seeks to increase the participation and representation of women in engineering and inspire the next generation of female engineers to make meaningful contributions to society. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university engineering program.
• Be pursuing a degree or credential in engineering or an engineering-related discipline.
• Demonstrate academic excellence, asevidencedby academic transcripts and other indicators of  scholastic achievement. 

• Demonstrate leadership and community involvement through volunteer service, extracurricularactivities, professional organizations, engineering initiatives, mentorship, or other meaningful contributions. 

Jade Sunrise ECSSEN Law Scholarship 

The Jade Sunrise ECSSEN Law Scholarship recognizes and provides financial support to individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to pursuing a career in the legal profession in Alberta. The scholarship supports students who aspire to become legal professionals and contribute to addressing the evolving needs of Alberta’s justice system, as well as internationally trained legal professionals with prior legal education and experience from their home countries who are working toward re-establishing their legal careers in Alberta. Through this scholarship, ECSSEN aims to encourage future legal professionals who demonstrate dedication, academic excellence, and a commitment to serving individuals and communities through the practice of law. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the general requirements below: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be an immigrant to Canada with a demonstrated commitment to contributing to and serving the Chinese community. 

• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Demonstrate academic excellence, as evidenced by academic transcripts and other indicators of scholastic achievement. 

• Demonstrate leadership and community involvement through volunteer service, community initiatives, professional activities, mentorship, student organizations, or other meaningful contributions.
• In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following pathways:

Pathway A – Law Student / Future Legal Professional

• Be enrolled in a law-related program at an accredited educational institution.
• Demonstrate a clear intention to pursue a legal career in Alberta, including becoming a lawyer or another legal professional. 

Pathway B – Internationally Trained Legal Professional 

• Have completed legal education and/or obtained professional legal experience outsideCanada. 

• Be actively working toward re-establishing a legal career in Alberta by pursuing Canadian legal qualification requirements, such as:
  • Completing the requirements established by the National Committee on Accreditation(NCA); or
  • Meeting other requirements established by relevant Alberta legal regulatory bodies. 

Jeremy ECSSEN Future Business Pioneer Scholarship 

The Jeremy ECSSEN Future Business Pioneer Scholarship recognizes and provides financial support to individuals who demonstrate ambition, leadership potential, and a commitment to building successful careers in the business sector. The scholarship supports students who are pursuing education in business, entrepreneurship, management, finance or related fields and who aspire to develop the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to Alberta’s economic growth. The scholarship also supports immigrants with previous business education and professional experience obtained outside Canada who are working to re-establish, transition, or advance their careers in Alberta’s business community. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following general requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Demonstrate academic excellence, asevidencedby academic transcripts and other indicators of scholastic achievement. 

• Demonstrate leadership and community involvement through volunteer service, community initiatives, extracurricular activities, professional experiences, mentorship, or other meaningfulcontributions.
• In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following pathways: 

Pathway A – Business Student / Future Business Professional 

• Be enrolled in a business-related program at an accredited post-secondary institution.
• The program may include, but is not limited to:
  • Business Administration;
  • Management;
  • Entrepreneurship;
  • Finance;
  • Marketing;
  • Accounting;
  • Commerce; or
  • Other related business disciplines.
• Demonstrate a clear interest in pursuing a career in entrepreneurship, management, business leadership, or another area of the business sector in Alberta. 

Pathway B – Internationally Trained Business Professional 

• Be an immigrant to Canada withpreviousbusiness education and/or professional experience obtained outside Canada. 

• Demonstrate active efforts to advance, transition, or re-establish a career in Alberta’s business sector, through activities such as:
  • Further education or professional development;
  • Business-related certifications;
  • Employment or entrepreneurship initiatives;
  • Networking and industry engagement; or
  • Other career advancement activities. 

Sam’s ECSSEN Sports Award 

The Sam’s ECSSEN Sports Award recognizes and supports young athletes in Calgary who demonstrate dedication, commitment, and excellence in their chosen sport. The award provides financial support to a student-athlete who has shown outstanding athletic achievement through participation and success in competitive events at the city level or higher, while also demonstrating the discipline, perseverance, and passion required to excel in the sport. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Be a student who has achieved competitive excellence in a recognized sport within the past 12 months.
• Applicants must have received a ranking, award, medal, championship recognition, or equivalent achievement at the city level or higher (including regional, provincial, national, or international competitions). 

• Eligible sports include, but are not limited to, traditional team and individual sports, as well as disciplines such as martial arts, gymnastics, and other recognized competitive sports.

• Demonstrate leadership and community involvement through activities such as volunteer service, mentoring, coaching, participation in sports organizations, school involvement, or other meaningful contributions.

• Demonstrate academic excellence, as evidenced by academic transcripts and other indicators of scholastic achievement. 

Fion’s ECSSEN Arts Award 

The Fion’s ECSSEN Arts Award recognizes and supports young artists in Calgary who demonstrate exceptional talent, dedication, and passion in the performing arts. The award provides financial support to a student who has shown outstanding achievement through performances, competitions, exhibitions, or other artistic accomplishments at the city level or higher. Beyond recognizing artistic excellence, this award celebrates the creativity, discipline, and commitment required to develop as a performer. ECSSEN aims to encourage young artists to continue pursuing their artistic goals, share their talents with the community, and contribute to the growth and appreciation of the arts. 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements: 

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
• Be proficient in at least one language other than English or French.
• Demonstrate outstanding achievement in a performing arts discipline within the past 12 months through one or more of the following:
  • Receiving an award, ranking, or recognition at the city level or higher;
  • Achieving distinction in competitions, festivals, showcases, performances, or other recognized artistic events; or
  • Demonstrating significant artistic accomplishments within their chosen performing arts field. 

• Be actively involved in a recognized performing arts discipline, including but not limited to:
  • Music;
  • Dance;
  • Theatre;
  • Visual Arts
  • Vocal performance;
  • Instrumental performance; or
  • Other performing arts disciplines. 

• Demonstrate leadership and community involvement through activities such as mentoring, volunteering, participation in arts organizations, community performances, school initiatives, or other meaningful contributions. 

• Demonstrate academic excellence, as evidenced by academic transcripts and other indicators of scholastic achievement.
